DFL Week...An Outstanding Success!!!

Seven days, Seven Domains, excitement, learning, commitment and vision – some apt words to best describe the week long knowledge extravaganza at SPJIMR conducted by PGDSM_MIT. With the objective to develop managers with well rounded domain knowledge of various business verticals, DFL week brought together veterans from various walks of the industry to facilitate domain learning for the students. Good domain knowledge materializes the USP of our batch by enhancing understanding the business of prospective clients, making them better Marketers, Consultants, Analysts and Managers.

The topics of lectures were as diverse as they can be. From Strategy to Implementation, from Change Management to User Experience, from Aviation to ERP, it was truly an amazing learning experience.

SPJIMR's PGDSM-MIT Program Records Stupendous Rise in Average Salary

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference." No one would agree more with Robert Frost than the 63 students of SPJIMR's dual degree program.

The third batch of SPJIMR's PGDSM-MIT put-up an exemplary performance in their final placements which concluded last week. As many as 21 companies participated and the first day saw 104 offers being made. In all, 145 offers were generated with the icing on the cake being the 2 international offers from ConVista Consulting (Germany) and Cedar Consulting (UAE).
The highest domestic salary was pegged at INR 15.0 Lakhs per annum. There has been a stupendous rise in average salary as compared to last year's placement season. The course has thus spawned 19 millionaires in the current batch of students.
Total Batch Size 63

Aricent, Arthur D. Little, Capgemini Consulting, Cedar Consulting, HP, IBM, McKinsey KC and Mindtree were some of the companies that participated for the first time in the placements of this unique systems management program. Other companies on campus included Cognizant, CitiGroup Global Services, Frost & Sullivan, GE, HCL, Honeywell, HUL, i2 Technologies, ICICI, Infosys, KPIT Cummins, KPMG, Mphasis, Satyam, Siemens Information Systems Ltd., TCS and Wipro for Day 1 placements. Genpact, NIIT, iNautix & Maersk Line were among the few other companies that visited on Day 2. IT consulting, strategy consulting, project management, pre-sales and business development was among the key roles offered. Almost 50% of the class of 2008 had bagged pre-placement offers soon after their autumn internships.

PGDSM-MIT (Post Graduate Diploma in Systems Management & Master of Information Technology) is a two year globally focused dual degree program in systems management awarded by SPJIMR in collaboration with Virginia Tech, USA. These placement statistics lucidly demonstrate that there is a growing demand for managers with strong business acumen along with ability to appreciate and handle technology. With this as the vision, SPJIMR joined hands with Virginia Tech and pioneered the concept of this unique dual degree program in 2004. The firm footing that the course has gained in the industry coupled with the growing trend for such foreign collaborations reinforces SPJIMR's vision to bring in international exposure and global focus to management education.

Without doubt, SPJIMR's innovative pedagogy and ingenious education model to cater to the demands of the industry are well-received. The foreign offers made this year for this course are indicative of the value of the association with Virginia Tech. In times to come, the industry, the academia and the government bodies have to come together and take up the responsibility of creating, nurturing and sustaining such promising courses. The nation's interests will be well-served if the regulatory authorities embark on a facilitating role rather than just a regulating role.
