MUIMUN scholarship awarded to Somansh
University of Münster is organizing the first Münster University International Model United Nations from April 1st - 5th, 2007. A Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations, where international students have the chance to act in different committees of the UN. In this conference 250 students from 75 countries are meeting to debate on topics which are of global concern.
The participants take up the role as ambassador of a specific country different to their own. For instance a student of India has to defend the role of Pakistan in front of the International Atomic Energy Agency, or a German student could be an American ambassador and therefore would have to explain its Iraq policy to its European allies.
With this program MUNs play an active role for better international understanding, which is highly recognized by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The students not only learn how decisions are made on an international level, but get a better understanding of different cultures and customs, and build up new networks around the globe.
Somansh Bansal is representing India in the world bank committee of United Nations to discuss on two topics:
1. International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) Loan Proposals
2. Micro Financing in times of contemporary challenges – non-profit v/s commerical micro
financing
