International Glory to Chirag..!!
Keeping the tradition of PGDSM-MIT alive, Mr. Chirag Bhatia made us proud by representing India in the second Münster University International Model United Nations from 1st April ’08 to 5th April ‘08. This event was organized by University of Münster where 200 students from across the globe met to debate on the topics of Global concern.
The participants took up the role as an ambassador of a country which was different from their own. For instance a participant from Afghanistan had to represent Pakistan where he had to speak against Eradication of Opium production from Afghanistan in front of the Peace Building Commission.
Chirag Bhatia was one of the 10 scholars who were granted full scholarship. He represented USA in the World Trade Organization committee of United Nations to discuss on the following two topics:
1. Subsidies on Fisheries
2. Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), related to Pharmaceutical Patents.
He was awarded for proposing the best solution in the WTO Committee.
He was also covered by German newspapers in recognition to his contribution in the conference.
Way to go buddy… you made us proud..!!

April 16 2008: A Day of Remembrance

On the morning of April 16, 2007, the campus of Virginia Tech experienced acts of horror so unspeakable and unimaginable that, even now, our minds cannot fully grasp them. The shooting tragedy that occurred has nonetheless irrevocably changed our university and our nation.
Equally hard to imagine are the depths of profound and limitless sorrow felt by all members of the university community, particularly the families, friends, colleagues, and classmates of those who died here that day. They have lost sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, spouses, friends, classmates, and professors in a sudden and senseless act of horrific violence, and they must learn to live with agonizing absences that will never be filled. As a part of the larger Hokie family, we grieve alongside them, our hearts filled with sadness and sympathy.
We as a part of Virginia Tech form a special family, one defined not by a single tragic event but by our storied past, a community not frozen in the present but poised to invent our future. The events of April 16 have changed us, to be sure, but they have not--and will not--set us back. Today, we are pressing ahead with a renewed commitment to the university, a deeper understanding of the quality and depth of its character, and a steadfast resolve to excel so that we may honour the memory of those we have lost.

Life @ PGDSM-MIT SPJIMR

Come April and the Admissions frenzy begins! We have had many students sending in queries about how life would be at PGDSM-MIT... So here's to all of them...!!
A plethora of impending exams, pending assignments and a flurry of Autumn placements did not discourage the students from working their way off till 7.00 A.M on the morning of 15th of August for the independence day celebrations! This is the spirit of the SPJIMR students wherein even twenty fours are not sufficient to live through a typical day at SPJIMR; that the day ends slightly before dawn is another case! The pre-reads, classroom discussions, surprise quizzes, group discussions, case studies, impending deadlines, night outs, projects do not deter them from taking active initiative in committee work, on-campus clubs, cultural festivals, Dandiya night, Republic day and numerous other activities. We have a very interactive curriculum where students travel to Lonavala for Personality Growth Lab, AnandWan to understand the self sustaining cottage industry for the under-privileged and finally are exposed to Gita Shibir for spiritual and thus, holistic development.
Be it the next CEO guest lecture or a workshop by the industry stalwarts; a panel discussion by eminent personalities or - the annual business festival; Holi celebrations or Sonu Nigam on Campus the students are all set ready to get going any minute of the day. It is indeed more than a jampacked two years but what makes it worthwhile is the peer interaction, group learning and team spirit all-pervasive in the AdMap committee work or Academic groups. We all always encouraged to explore every avenue like never before in these two years such that we pass out as polished, energized and mature individuals!

Virginia Tech Contact Session - Dr. Osman Balci
We take great pleasure in welcoming Dr. Osman Balci.
Dr. Balci is a professor of Computer Science, Virginia Tech and President of Orca Computer Inc. He will be here along with us from March 17th to March 21st, 2008. He would be teaching "Systems Simulation" to the participants of PGDSM-MIT04.
His presence will indeed be a great opportunity for all participants of SPJIMR to interact and gain insight into his areas of expertise.

Dr. Arthur is an associate professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. He is here along with us from March 10th to March 14th, 2008. He would be teaching "Software Design & Quality Management" to the participants of PGDSM-MIT04.
His presence will indeed be a great opportunity for all participants of SPJIMR to interact and gain insight into his areas of expertise.
