Birthday Bash at the Bistro

With the end of the day’s classes, and the cakes ready, it was time to celebrate the birthdays of the month of the PGDSM-MIT batch. Everyone had waited for the occasion for a long time now. Ruchira, Ganesh, Ashwin, Ankur, Maneesha and Laxmi did the honours while the bistro echoed the birthday song.


There were some who ate the first piece of the black forest and others who used it on the faces of the birthday boys and girls. There was a lot of cheerful banter in the bistro while the cakes were being consumed. The cake fiesta was then of course followed by the birthday bumps for the birthday boys. That was the end of the celebrations and left everyone waiting for the next birthday bash.

Be an Elephant, not a Tiger!

"Be an elephant, not a tiger"- this was one of our learnings in our first Macroeconomics Session today!! For those of you who are wondering what this is all about here goes...

Prof. Preetha George asked us to come up with 10 points on a case study about challenges faced by the Indian economy. After some brainstorming, groups came up with pertinent points of their analysis and wrote them on the board. The icing on the cake was when the last group brought their idea of "India should not sprint like a tiger but rather amble along like an elephant". The reason being an overhyped and fast paced economy is not a positive indicator for India's growth, instead it is better to be like the elephant with high stamina and persistance.

The creative description by Rajat, Gagan, KrishnaMohan, Nishant, Arjun and Anurag had the class rolling over with laughter!
What a start to Macroeconomics! :)

I observed at Graduation Ceremony...

Dear PGDSM-MIT03 participants,

I asked myself a question, looking towards your batch, 'Can I try you out?'. I didn't wait too long, or for too many people to ratify the answer in my mind 'Yes, i will". You proved exceptional, in the quality of support you gave me, for making the SPJIMR Graduation Ceremony what it was; we all know that.

I noticed a few things with pride; the way the PGDSM-MIT03 volunteers kept a stone face, stowed away emotions behind, and put forward a humble and extremely alert disposition, esp during absolute crunch situations. You have a way, a style that I felt is unique and outstanding. Now on, you will have to work even harder to sustain it. And bet, you will.

Before I end, I mustn't forget to mention one more person, Sandeep Sharma (pgdbm-1). Simply put, he was the complete 'Auto-pilot device', for the Graduation Ceremony. And mind you, this 'device' even innovates on its own. Brilliant!

Team Advitiya win @ IIT-Kgp

Shireen Shaikh, Sonaal Bangera, Saikumar Swamy and Ankur Joshi (team 'Advitiya' of SPJIMR's PGDSM MIT 03) have won first prize in the event Marca da Fabrica (Marketing Event) held during Kshitij '07 at IIT-Kharagpur. In all, 19 teams had been shortlisted for the final round.

The teams had been asked to design an ad campaign for a fictional company. The objectives of the campaign were:
1. To lay bare the racial undercurrent present in the movement against the company and to appeal to the masses to boycott such malicious campaign.
2. To highlight the technical edge of the company over its competitors.
3. To highlight that the company has a distinct pro employee stand.

Team Advitiya had designed the Logo, USP, Tagline, Color Newspaper Ad, poster and a 3 page internet based ad.

Congrats guys! Great job!
